Another Islamist Soldier Turns Terrorist in Texas
Terrorism item by
Daniel Pipes
(8/8/11)
U.S. Army Private First Class Nasser Jason Abdo(1), 21, first made the news last August when, arguing(2) that his Islamic faith contradicts serving in the American military, he filed for conscientious objector (C.O.) status. Referring to current American wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, Abdo asserted that a Muslim “is not allowed to participate in an Islamicly unjust war. Any Muslim who knows his religion ... should not participate in the U.S. military.” Further, he wrote: “I cannot be a soldier in the US Army and continue to remain true to Islam.”

Clandestine Cause of Global Warming
Global Warming item by
Kevin Roeten
(8/2/11)
Natural cycles ALWAYS change climate. One of the biggest cycles is the Pacific Decadal Oscillation (PDO). It shifts from warm to cold every 20-30 years, or on an inter-decadal time scale. This is directly related to sea surface temperature. The PDO’s temperature variance over more than 100 years can be viewed in the graph below. A common thread to PDO and climate is unmistakable. (Both graphs below are from Wikipedia.)
Hot town – summer in the city
Society item by
Michael R. Shannon
(8/2/11)
I cheated death last Saturday. I went outside to work in the yard. No doubt, in light of the last week’s crippling heat wave smothering the East Coast, you think my decision foolhardy.
The Medicare “Wellness” Farce
Health Care item by
Jane M. Orient
(8/2/11)
The real news about Medicare should be the Gang of 15, namely the IPAB or Independent Payment Advisory Board. It is charged with putting a lid on Medicare spending, with no judicial or congressional oversight. The only tool it is allowed to use is to not pay for services, or to pay far below cost. Guess what happens when you stop paying people, even doctors? They stop working, and thus stop ordering expensive medicines and tests.

It’s Just a Heat Wave
ClimateGate item by
Alan Caruba
(7/26/11)
The most surprising thing about the current heat wave affecting much of the United States is that no global warming charlatan is claiming that it is the result of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. Since the late 1980s, Americans were assailed with the global warming hoax until, in November 2009, the release of emails between the trolls ginning up false “climate models” were exposed.
Shining The Light On Laser Pointer Penalties
Law item by
Frederick Meekins
(7/26/11)
The Federal Aviation Administration has announced plans to impose fines as high as $11,000 upon those caught shining laser pointers into airplane cockpits.
The Next Climate Debate Bombshell
ClimateGate item by
Dennis T. Avery
(7/26/11)
Get ready for the next big bombshell in the man-made warming debate. The world’s most sophisticated particle study laboratory - CERN in Geneva - will soon announce that more cosmic rays do, indeed, create more clouds in earth’s atmosphere. More cosmic rays mean a cooler planet. Thus, the solar source of the earth’s long, moderate 1,500-year climate cycle will finally be explained.
Empower Iranians vs. Tehran
Middle East item by
Daniel Pipes
(7/26/11)
How should Western governments deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran, which Washington(1) labels “the most active state sponsor of terrorism”?
The Ratification Debate Part Three
The Republic item by
Robert R. Owens
(7/26/11)
Concluding my three part series in celebration of our nation’s 235th Birthday, we will look at arguments advanced by both sides. Last week we ended with the question, who were the Federalists and the Anti-Federalists and why does it matter to us today? This week we will learn the answers to the questions. Who was debating? What did they have to say? Who won? And, why does it matter to us today?
Green Living Through Conservatism
GreeenIsm item by
Bruce Walker
(7/26/11)
There are few areas of policy in which the left is more united than “Green” living. The risible projections in the Population Bomb, the mendacious researchers of Official Global Warming, the shrewish propagandists whose lies about DDT condemned millions of poor children to awful deaths, the wistful incantations by Obama about how “renewable energy” will make our life bliss – all these, and more, are part of modern leftism.

‘How Do You Know When Government Has Gotten Too Big?’
Government item by
J. J. Jackson
(7/17/11)
No, I do not ask the question without knowing the answer. Government is too big when the lack of government actually prevents people from living their lives. Our founding fathers wanted government to be there to protect people from encroachments to their lives, liberties and pursuits of happiness. When government instead turns from protector of these rights to an arbiter of how we must go about enjoying them is when things go all wonky.
‘Violence Against Women Act: Do the Rights of Men Matter?’
Femi-Nazis item by
Carey Roberts
(7/17/11)
It’s been some 17 years since our nation declared war on domestic violence and enacted the Violence Against Women Act. It seemed like a good idea at the time. After all, who could be unmoved by tales of women trapped in lethal relationships, enduring ritual beatings at the hands of an overbearing mate?
More Boulders in Africa’s Farm Path
GreeenIsm item by
Dennis T. Avery
(7/17/11)
CHURCHVILLE, VA - The African Biofortified Sorghum project centered in South Africa, is striving to breed sorghum with extra lysine, vitamin A, iron, and zinc to help millions of African small farmers meet their families’ nutritional needs. The project is funded by the Bill Gates Foundation, collaborating with Du Pont and Pioneer Hi-Bred Seeds. Unfortunately, the project has been unable to get South African regulatory approval for its field trials. The test planting will now have to be done in the U.S., though African trials would be a better test.
VAWA: An Idea Whose Time Never Should Have Come
Femi-Nazis item by
Gordon E. Finley
(7/17/11)
Like facing a hurricane, America now faces the reauthorization of a powerful and destructive feminist-made disaster tearing through the lives of children, fathers, families and the nation’s formerly bedrock institution of marriage. The reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) begins on July 13, 2011. Now is the time to engage in disaster mitigation to either defund VAWA or to redirect it to serve equally the other half of domestic violence victims – men.
Cut Loose at Fifty: Chapter One - On Coming to China
Life item by
Chris Clancy
(7/17/11)
It was May 1st 1976 - I was at university. To kick the May Day festivities off the student union organized a three-legged pub crawl. A map was provided detailing ten pubs – the last being a student bar in one of the Halls of Residence.
The Ratification Debate Part Two
Constitution item by
Robert R. Owens
(7/17/11)
Picking up where I left off in my review of the ratification debate I want to address the question I raised at the end of last week’s essay, “What was the problem?”
Middle East Studies in Upheaval
Middle East item by
Daniel Pipes
(7/17/11)
The troubled academic study of the Middle East and Islam by Americans is changing in fundamental ways.

Height Saves Life of CHCH Editor!
Life item by
Austin Miles
(7/5/11)
God knows every life from beginning to end and takes everything in between into consideration. Chip McLean,a founder* and editor of Capitol Hill Coffee House has no doubt that God had His Hand on him on Tuesday June 21st when he almost lost his life in a freak accident during a storm in Rock Hill, South Carolina.
The Ratification Debate Part One
Constitution item by
Robert R. Owens
(7/5/11)
While it is not my usual routine to write articles in a series, in honor of our nation’s 235th birthday I want to take some time to examine the process that led to the ratification of the Constitution. Therefore, each of the next three weeks I will post one installment of a short reflection on the ratification debate.
Clearing the air
EPA item by
Paul Driessen
(7/5/11)
Trying to correct all the disinformation about “mercury and air toxics” is a full-time job - Ever since public, congressional and union anger and anxiety persuaded the Environmental Protection Agency to delay action on its economy-strangling carbon dioxide rules, EPA has been on a take-no-prisoners crusade to impose other job-killing rules for electricity generating plants.
Silliness About Who Has To Give Up Their Day Jobs
Elections item by
J. J. Jackson
(7/5/11)
Let’s think about something here. With the 2012 Presidential election already upon us, half way through 2011, several candidates have already declared their intention to run on the GOP side of the ticket. Prior to declaring however, many of them were forced to divest themselves of their day jobs because of silly rules put in place by Washington politicians and bureaucrats.

‘ Where’s the “Science Story of the Century”?’
Global Cooling item by
Dennis T. Avery
(6/24/11)
CHURCHVILLE, VA - Is it the “Science Story of the Century” or the best kept American media secret of the year? Just-announced heavyweight new studies from the U.S. National Solar Observatory tell us to expect a long quiet period for the sun - and decades of cooler global temperatures.
Federal Reserve Flunks Basic Economics
Federal Reserve item by
OffSite
(6/24/11)
Dr. Carl J. Arnold taught the money and banking class at Presbyterian College when I was a student there. I can still picture him in 1986: dark, crew-cut hair; pressed khaki pants; white, short-sleeved, buttoned-down shirt; dark, plastic-framed glasses; and a pocket protector. Ok, maybe he didn’t wear a pocket protector. In any event, he should have worn one if he didn’t.
Not Stealing Palestine but Purchasing Israel
Middle East item by
Daniel Pipes
(6/24/11)
Zionists stole Palestinian land: that’s the mantra both the Palestinian Authority and Hamas teach their children and propagate in their media. This claim has vast importance, as Palestinian Media Watch(1) explains: “Presenting the creation of the [Israeli] state as an act of theft and its continued existence as a historical injustice serves as the basis for the PA’s non-recognition of Israel’s right to exist.” The accusation of theft also undermines Israel’s position internationally.
