Mike Wallace Rude re Romney Pre-Marital Sex Question
By Grant Swank on May 11, 07

In the 60 Minutes interview, Mike Wallace asks Mitt Romney and wife if they had pre-marital sex.

That is so utterly rude it isn’t even funny. Wallace has gone way over the line with that question.

Romney responded by saying that he and his wife are not going to permit interviews to go into such questions. However, before moving on, Romney answered NO anyhow. In other words, in case there is any doubt at all, Romneys went to the marital altar with no pre-marital sex. I hope Wallace got satisfied on that quick Romney response.

Wallace, by asking that question, as far I can figure out is poking fun at Mormons’ morality base. There are those ex-Mormons who point fingers of accusation at the church they left, some of those accusations dealing with sexual aberrations of one kind or another. These ex-Mormons say the church’s public image needs a lot of cleaning up to be honest under God.

But that is not the point.

The point is that the Mormon public image of “clean living” people should not permit an interviewer to ask a presidential hopeful about pre-marital sex. Would Wallace ask that of the other presidential hopefuls? If he does he’s going to get into quite the mire—up to his thighs. They have tales that not only involve pre-marital this and that but extra-marital-plus.

Wallace asking Romneys about pre-marital sex is like Wallace interviewing James Dobson of Focus on the Family and asking him the same question. In other words, try to make pain for a moral base leader whether in religion or politics. It’s just plain hickish and not becoming of 60 Minutes or any other like venue.

Would Wallace ask Ruth Graham that question? Would he ask Bill Gaither that question?

Thank God Romney kept his senses when hit in the head with Wallace’s lowbrow inquiry. Kudos to Romneys and a slap in the puss to Wallace.
